The town of Cave Creek will hold its primary on March 9 and the general election on May 18. Three candidates are vying for the mayor’s post while seven people are running for six open council seats. All are two-year terms. Incumbent Mayor Tom Augherton is not running nor are David L. Phelps and Ellen Sands of the current town council. Councilman Vincent Francia is running for mayor.
The town is not divided into precincts. There are no propositions. Mayoral candidates: Howell “Hal” Conant (former town marshal) Vincent Francia (town councilman) Jim Grubb (former town councilman) Council candidates: Dean Brewer (incumbent) Laura J. Cox (incumbent) Dan Dahlquist Gilbert Lopez Grace Meeth (incumbent) Ralph S. Mozilo Jerry Whitmore
The town of Carefree will hold its primary on March 9. Unlike Cave Creek, the mayor of Carefree is voted on by the town council. Thirteen people are vying for seven spots on the council. Six of the 13 running are incumbents. Former councilman Tom Chenal is opting out of the race. All positions are two-year terms. Many of the hopefuls are upset over the Los Arcos Stadium District vote by the current council. Seems the election is taking on that “throw the bums out” theme similar to the “Republican Revolution” in Congress in 1994.
